  • Parent Governor Election

    Mon 08 Nov 2021

Letters regarding the election of 2 parents to serve on our Governing Body will be sent home with the eldest child in each family today. Each parent will be entitled to 2 votes, one for each vacancy. The result will be published on the school notice board at the entrance gates on Tuesday 23rd November.

Voting slips (attached to the letters) can be returned by post, via pupils using the envelopes provided, or votes may be cast personally at the school between 9.00 - 4.00 using the sealed ballot box in Mr Richardson's office.

  • Homework & Parent Governor Elections

    Wed 22 Sep 2021

Homework: Homework will be set from this week for Years 1 - 6. Homework will be set on a Thursday and will need to be handed in / submitted electronically by the following Tuesday. Homework at our school will focus on basic skills and consolidation of class learning. From Year 4 onwards children will be using Google Classroom to complete activities from this week. If this presents any difficulties, e.g. that children have limited access to the internet and devices, please let your class teacher know. Children in Year 3 and below will be given paper based homework with a view to the whole school using Google Classroom as we move through the year.

Where possible, please check your child’s homework activities on a Thursday, so that anything that is not understood can be clarified with your child’s teacher on Friday. I would also advise to take a little and often approach to the activities rather than trying to complete them all in one sitting.

Parent Governor Elections: Unfortunately the deadline for nominations for our two vacant Parent Governor positions has passed and we have received no nominations. Being a governor at our school carries with it a minimum commitment of attendance at 5 meetings, spread throughout the academic year. Governors set the strategic direction of the school and have an important role ensuring that the school functions effectively. We will shortly be writing out asking for nominations and I would urge anyone who was thinking of being a governor to seek nomination. If you would like to talk to me about what the role entails in more detail, please let me know.

  • Author Visit - Year 3, Year 4 & Year 5 children

    Fri 17 Sep 2021

We are very excited to have Lydia Saunders, a local author, coming in to visit on the 29th September. Lydia Saunders has recently written a series of books for children (6-11) called 'Hysterical Herstories' telling the stories of ordinary women throughout history who led extraordinary lives.

    These are her words:

Men have their standing in the history books already but now is the time to celebrate everyone and in writing these books I am redressing the balance. Through these, I hope to shine a small light on these herstories so when young adults-in-training read them, they can see examples of all peoples, not necessarily heroes but contributors in their own way to humankind. For too long it’s been his-story, now it’s time for hers. Hysterical Herstories: ordinary women leading extra-ordinary lives.

My first book is based on Marie Curie. The book begins by telling the story of Marie Curie in the form of a poem, and is followed by a timeline of her life, a map of her Europe, and a history section and glossary for those children who wish to delve a little deeper into her background. The book is beautifully illustrated throughout by a local illustrator and also is peppered with real-life photographs.

Lydia will be coming in to speak to children about being an author and the Herstories series. This will be followed by questions from the children and a section on how to write creatively (plus a small creative writing competition!).

Order forms are available on the Letters page of our website for anyone who would like to pre-order a book from the series. All forms should be returned to school by Monday 27th September so we are able to let Lydia know how many books to bring. The money for the books should be brought to school in an envelope on Wednesday 29th September (please note, the school will not be processing the money so we recommend the correct amount of money being sent in). All books purchased this way will be signed by Lydia on the day.

In addition to this, Kobe Tong will be in school on Thursday 30th September to talk to our Year 4 and Year 5 children about his role as a sports journalist. He will discuss what his role involves as well as delve into the writing process and how he gets his final pieces.

We hope the children find these inspiring and helpful days,

    Mrs Jones

  • Sports Day - Monday 5th July

    Thu 24 Jun 2021

CELEBRATING 150 YEARS OF SOUTH HYKEHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL

As you know, Sports Day this year is a little different. Unfortunately, we won’t have parents supporting, but we will still aim to make the day as special and enjoyable for the children as possible, especially as it launches a week of special activities to celebrate 150 years of South Hykeham Primary School.

On Sports Day, we would like your child to wear a t-shirt in their house colour.

Your child could also wear accessories in their house team colour, e.g. socks, a cap, a headband, a bobble, ribbon, wristbands, bandana, laces, etc. Maybe they could bring/make something to wave, like a flag or a scarf in their house team colour. NORMAL P.E. KIT TO BE WORN ON THEIR BOTTOM HALF PLEASE.

Please could children arrive at school in their sports day outfits. They will be able to wear their sports kit for the whole day.

Also, please ensure that your child is suitably organised for the weather conditions e.g. suncream applied before they get to school if it is going to be a warm day, a hat/cap for protection, etc.

    Thank you for your support!

The Friends of The School have written another online quiz to bring all our families together for a bit of fun. The quiz is family friendly, in case there are small children around, and there are lots of questions they will be able to help with!

The quiz is live on Friday 22nd May and starts at 8pm. However, there is no audio or video connection, so it doesn’t matter if you are in your pyjamas with a glass of wine!
