Year 6 have enjoyed learning about Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. They learnt that he observed finches in the Galapagos Islands and found out that birds had different shaped beaks to help them survive on different islands depending on which food was available to them.
We used these as our 'beaks'.
These were our 'food sources' representing seeds of varying sizes, nuts and insects.
We enjoyed conducting an experiment.
We timed ourselves for 20 seconds.
We used each 'beak' to pick up each type of 'food' in the time given.
We had lots of fun!
We have been learning about rationing during WW2. As a group, we planned and made a three course meal using rations. Our starter was soup!
Our main course was Woolton Pie! It was made with mashed potato in the pastry to save on some rations.
Making desserts was great fun too! Some of us used a wartime pancake recipe and others make eggless sponge cakes.
