  • Punctuality

    Fri 17 Jan 2025

    Dear Parent,

I am writing to all parents regarding the importance of punctuality. Our school has high expectations of attendance, and we are proud of consistently high rates across our school and over time. These rates ensure that children access their learning and make good progress as a result.

Whilst pupil attendance is a strength of our school, I wanted to explain some of the reasons why punctuality is also very important to all learners.

Firstly, children arriving late causes disruption to the work of our administration team in the front office. Typically, the time from 8.50 until 9.10 is one of the busiest in the office and when children arrive late, this work is disrupted. Any disruption to work in school may have a knock-on effect to learning.

Secondly, the start of the day is typically used for practise of basic skills in maths in most classes. This input has a significant impact on academic standards for our children in maths and children who arrive late either miss this, or at best don’t have the same amount of time to practise these essential skills.

Finally, although there are other reasons we should value attendance that I could articulate, the learning of other children in class can be disadvantaged by late coming children, as teaching staff may need to go over learning input that has been missed rather than continuing to teach the lesson.

Whilst we fully appreciate that there may be occasions when children may be late, I would respectfully ask that all pupils arrive no later than 8.55 in order to access their full curriculum of learning.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Yours sincerely,

    John Richardson

  • Items of Information from Mr Richardson

    Wed 17 Jul 2024

As we approach the end of the academic year, I'd like to thank you for your support, which has been greatly appreciated. I have a few items of information for you.

Sports Day: Please remember that we have rescheduled Sports Day for Thursday 18th July. If you are able to attend it would be great if you could bring a chair to sit on. If the weather forecast is accurate, please ensure that children have suncream a hat and their water bottle.

Mobile Replacement Project: Unfortunately this has encountered another delay (the initial start date was February 2024). We have been advised that work should begin at the end of September now. The only work likely to be carried out in the summer holiday is for a new door to be cut in the hall wall to allow access and egress from the hall when it becomes a temporary classroom whilst the new classroom is built.

Year 4 and 5 Teachers: Mrs Jones (Monday until Thursday lunchtime) and Mrs Snowden (Thursday p.m. and Friday) will take Year 4 next year. Due to the delay to the building project, the children in Year 4 in September will initially be taught in the mobile, before moving to the hall when the project starts.

Miss Riches (All day Monday as well as Tuesday afternoon) and Miss Stephens (Tuesday morning and Wednesday through to Friday) will take Year 5.

Earrings: Our policy on earrings is that they need to be removed for P.E. sessions. If you are thinking of arranging for ear piercings for your child, early in the summer holiday  would typically mean that they will be able to remove them on return to school in September.

Friends of the School: I would like to thank the Friends of the School for their fantastic support this year. Not only have they raised funds that have allowed us to provide experiences and equipment for our children that we couldn't afford from our budget, but they have also provided events that bring our school together as a community. We are very grateful for their time and commitment.

We wish all of our families a restful and enjoyable summer and will look forward to seeing everyone refreshed again in September. The children return to school on Wednesday 4th September.

  • Comic Relief Red Nose Day - Friday 15th March

    Wed 20 Mar 2024

Thank you very much for supporting Comic Relief Red Nose Day on Friday 15th March. Our school raised £177 and we are very grateful to Mrs Hazelwood for banking the donations on behalf of our school.

  • Comic Relief Red Nose Day - Friday 15th March

    Thu 29 Feb 2024

On Friday 15th March South Hykeham Community Primary School will join thousands of schools up and down the country coming together to spread joy, have fun and raise money for those who need it most. Because there’s nothing like Red Nose Day.

Let’s face it, we could all do with a bit of a laugh right now. So, let’s come together and do something amazing. Let’s make Red Nose Day the best day ever. Here’s what we’ve got planned for this year:

    • Fancy dress / non-uniform - Make a voluntary donation to come to school dressed in something red or something ‘funny’ to raise money for Comic Relief. This could be something as simple as a red T-shirt or socks, or something more adventurous like a fancy dress costume, pyjamas, a crazy hairstyle or even wearing clothes back to front!

    • As Comic Relief are trying to spread some joy, we will be holding a school joke competition. We are asking the children to come to school on Friday 15th with their best joke. These will be shared with their classmates and the staff and children in each room will vote on which makes them laugh the most. The winner from each class will receive a small prize and each of the class winners’ jokes will then be judged by Mrs. Hill to find our South Hykeham funniest joke, with the winner receiving the overall prize.

As well as taking the opportunity to be part of something positive, we’ll be using Red Nose Day as a learning opportunity. We’ll explore the issues facing young people across the world, and how the money we raise can help. However much or little we raise, we’ll be helping change lives in the UK and across the world.

So get Friday 15th March in the diary and prepare to have some fun!

  • World Book Day 2024

    Wed 21 Feb 2024

World Book Day will be celebrated on Thursday 7th March 2024.  Your child will be bringing home an invitation today to join us for ‘the hattiest party of all time.’ The invitation and hat request are all based on a popular children’s book which will be read with each class on World Book Day.  Each class will then carry out a range of activities based on this, as well as having a class party where children will have free time to share their favourite book/ read a book they would like to bring in to school (please may all books be labelled with your child’s name).

There will be a class prize for the ‘fanciest hat’ so please feel free to get creative by making a hat, adding extras to a hat you already own, or by wearing a hat your child likes.  On this day, children may come to school in their own clothes or dress up as their favourite book character.

If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s Class Teacher.
