In 2012 and 2013 we had links with the Mellor Community Primary School in Leicester. This link was a tremendous opportunity for our school to work with a school in a setting completely different to our own and likewise benefitted pupils at Mellor. Both schools have strong School Councils and they worked together. Unfortunately we are unable to continue this link and are actively pursuing a link with a school in an inner city setting to support our children’s understanding of the world they live in.
We have a link with St Paul’s Missionary College in Malta. This link started with a Comenius Project in 2012 whereby two teachers from South Hykeham visited Attard School in Malta; the teacher we were developing a link with subsequently moved to St Paul’s and has visited our school in April 2013. In the academic year 2013 – 2014 our Year 4 / 5 class worked on a blog with the pupils of St Paul’s and we were delighted when 24 pupils visited us in June 2014. During this visit we went to Whisby Nature Park and the National Space Centre in Leicester as well as having several social events. A similar and equally successful visit took place in June 2015. We are hoping to see the children from Malta again in June 2017. We are now looking at the feasibility of a reciprocal visit by some of our pupils to Malta to develop our links further.
