Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing to inform you about new national regulations regarding authorised absences during the school term, which have been introduced from 1st September 2013. A similar letter was sent to parents in July 2013.
The regulations up to August 31st 2013 allowed headteachers to grant leave of absence, including for the purpose of a family holiday, during term time in “special circumstances” of up to ten school days leave, per year.
From September 2013, amendments to the regulations remove references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. The amendments make clear that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
This means that from September 2013 parents will not be able to request leave of absence unless they can demonstrate that there are exceptional circumstances involved. If you feel that your request for authorised absence falls under the category of exceptional circumstances please complete the request form in this section of the website and submit it to the school office. If you have any questions please contact me.
